There is a fair bit going on up in his head and I think they helped him to concentrate. I wasn’t sure how much battle or fight he’d have but to be fair to him now he got the job done today. I’m delighted for the owners Dave Field and Eddie Aylward who have been very patient with him. He’s been one of those horses that is always picking up little niggling things and it’s been difficult to get a clear run with him. His recent form wouldn’t inspire you even though he was travelling well in Tramore the last day when he got brought down. I was more hopeful than confident but it’s great to get the win out of him. He won on heavy ground in Wexford nearly two years ago and I knew when that heavy shower came after the second race that it wouldn’t do his chances any harm. He’s not a winter horse and may have a run over fences before we wrap up for the winter.

We knew we had him really right today and he was in super form. Today's ground wouldn't be in his favour, he is definitely better on better ground but I thought Conor gave him a good ride. I could be guilty as it has taken me three years to figure out how to ride this horse - he is very keen and we've always held him up but I said to Conor today that we have to try something different. We made a conscious decision to drop him back in trip but to jump him out in front and to try and get the keeness out of him. I've been guilty of giving the wrong instructions for three years but it worked well today!. I was expecting him to run well but thought he might have needed it because he hasn't ran since May. We had a little job done with him in May and it seems to have worked. He had been working well at home and we were very happy with him although he is a horse who carries a little bit of condition so can be deceiving. Oliver (Barden, owner) actually mentioned to me today that he was looking on the heavier side but I was happy with him. He is quite gross and always carries a bit of condition. He has been hugely disappointing and has been second and placed I don't know how many times. He was always beaten by good horses on the day.
