His Excellency is a tricky customer but took to fences well at Killarney to make a winning debut over the larger obstacles.
Davy Russell produced his mount to join Cass Bligh at the third last in the beginners chase.
Gordon Elliott 's charge was asked for an effort at the next and despite swishing his tail furiously he picked up well from the final fence to settle matters.
The Gigginstown gelding asserted on the run to the line to record a two-and-a-quarter-length victory at 7/1.
"He was getting the four-year-old allowance and was a Grade 2 winner (over hurdles)," said Elliott afterwards.
"He jumped great and Davy gave him a class ride. He'll mix it between hurdles and chases for the summer and will probably run next in a novice chase." Catleen was withdrawn at the start after failing to line up, which meant a 10c deduction to all bets.
