Dermot Weld holds Shamida in high regard and she may now be aimed at the highest level after landing the Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trail Stakes at the Curragh.

The ground at the Curragh is good, good to yielding in places. A mainly dry day is expected.
Sun 20th Aug
With a rating of 89 after a course maiden win in May, Shamida (10/3) had a fair bit to find on paper ahead of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Stanerra Stakes but showed herself to be a very progressive three-year-old when securing a narrow victory.

Having finished third on her two previous visits to the track, the Dermot Weld trained Shamida made the breakthrough in determined fashion when winning the Leopardstown Fillies Maiden under Chris Hayes.
Fri 19th May
Warm Heart improved upon a runner-up spot at Leopardstown last month to make the breakthrough at the same venue for Aidan O'Brien.

She is a very brave and honest filly and a very good one. We thought she'd win today, were surprised she wasn't favourite but there you go and she is a triple Group 3-winning filly now. The distance was slightly short for her but she showed a good turn of foot at the top of the straight. She isn't a slow filly. She has plenty of entries in the autumn, we'll see how she comes out of this race and pick something nice. She'll be going back up to Group 1 level again.

She was in Cork on Friday night but we withdrew her because of the ground. She’s a good actioned filly and would never want the ground too soft. I’d say she will have one more run this year and I’d say it will be the Prix Royallieu, it’s the Group 1 mile and six for fillies and mares. It’s kind of written for her. This is a very game, tough three-year-old. She’s an immature filly and I think she will improve. Two of the horses she faced today won at Royal Ascot and it was a very good trial. She’s a stayer with speed.

Tactics still win races and it was a very good ride by Chris Hayes. That was the plan and he executed to perfection. She is an improving filly and is improving with every run. Hopefully she continues to progress. Now that she is a Group 3 winner we will probably look at the Park Hill, the Group 2 at Doncaster. I’d like to give her a bit of time between her races. She’s a very genuine filly and I love the way she battles. She doesn’t know how to quit.

I think it was a very good maiden, they ran it from pillar to post. Ryan brought them some gallop and I think you'll see a lot of winners coming out of that race,. I was very pleased with our filly, she's progressive and hopefully we can go on and get some black-type with her next time. She's a filly that's coming forward, every time she's run she's run better. I think she'll continue to progress. It was a good ride from Chris. All ours are just coming nicely now. I said a couple of weeks before the English Guineas that I really needed two more weeks. They are doing what I thought they would do. We've a smaller team of horses this year and I've got to be selective where I run them. The competition is tougher than ever and I'm very pleased with the way they have been performing. I'm very pleased the way my two jockeys, Chris Hayes and Leigh Roche, are riding.
